Hope
My McNally Jackson coworker Cheryl Sucher (who's also a novelist and journalist) published a piece called "Glimmers of Hope" in a recent issue of Publishers Weekly. This holiday season was a very busy one at the SoHo bookshop, and Cheryl's article reveals a lot about why, and about what it takes to bring an independent bookstore into the 21st century. . Her last line is something to treasure:

Ha! That was my least favorite line. You have such high tolerance level for that sort of thing. I guess the corollary is that you are a hopeful person yourself, and it spurs you to persevere in doing cool things (like the store).
