Hope

My McNally Jackson coworker Cheryl Sucher (who's also a novelist and journalist) published a piece called "Glimmers of Hope" in a recent issue of Publishers Weekly. This holiday season was a very busy one at the SoHo bookshop, and Cheryl's article reveals a lot about why, and about what it takes to bring an independent bookstore into the 21st century. . Her last line is something to treasure:

"Holding our breath, we move forward into this holiday season, keeping our eyes on the glimmers of hope on the horizon."

  1. Ha! That was my least favorite line. You have such high tolerance level for that sort of thing. I guess the corollary is that you are a hopeful person yourself, and it spurs you to persevere in doing cool things (like the store).
